Summerland

  Chapter 1.

Everyone knows about vampires. Those creepy, night walking, blood-sucking, bat turning creatures. Or course, me being me, those are just some cool fictional characters that are fun to read about. They’d never be real. Unless, somehow they were real but lived in some faraway place in Scotland. Or something like that. It never occurred to me, Chelsea Starr, to be a part of some vampire’s game.

“Will you get on with it already?” Scarlet groaned, letting me know that she had heard enough about my newest vampire crave. I just started reading this awesome book called ‘Bats and Black Roses’. Of course, I already started making a big deal of it since the vampire, Vincent Valefore, seems so hot in the book. Scarlet, of all people, was telling me to get a move on from a vampire book?

“C’mon! You gotta admit, Vincent’s a pretty awesome name.” I gloated, my ‘you just can’t resist this kind of man’ look staring straight at Scar. She rolled her eyes and took another bite of her candy-corn. “Yeah, yeah I get it.”

I sighed heavily, moving the book from Scar’s face to my chest, my once happy face replaced with a look of worry. “You okay? I thought you’d be dying to hear about this.” She shrugged and crossed her black-and-white striped legging covered legs. I flicked a candy-corn at her and it made contact with a curl or her burgundy hair, sticking like super-glue.

That didn’t seem to amuse her. She picked it out of her hair and set it down with the rest. I groaned, flipping my head back as if I wanted it to fly right off. Scar was being unimaginably stubborn. When I had opened my eyes and lifted my head a bit, I caught someone in the corner of my eye. I stopped dead in my tracks, the pure black hair and red/black clothing made my attention flutter to this person. My head flicked back up. All I could see was the back of him; the other side of his body was facing the other way, as if to avoid sunlight – or people. Creepy.

My head cocked a bit, and then I turned my attention to Scarlet. “Hey, check him out.” I said, pointing a finger at the man. Her eyes made contact with the back of him and her hand dropped from her chin to her side. “Is that guy new?’ Her surprise was leaking out in her voice, though she tried hard to hide it.

I considered that to be the most possible theory, although he could be the same guy since out freshman year, we just happened to overlook him and not pay him any attention. Though…that was a little farfetched, since we knew practically everyone in the school – All but any new students. I nodded.

Just as I was about to turn my head away, the man’s head turned to the side, as if he noticed an intent glare on his backside. I caught my breath.
